Do I need both the data pack and resource pack?

Yes. Better Genetics requires both files to work properly. Install the data pack into your world's datapacks folder and the resource pack into your resource packs folder.

Can I use this with other data packs?

Usually yes, but if another data pack modifies animal breeding or stats, there might be conflicts. Test with your other packs to be sure.

How do I breed animals for perfect stats?

Find wild animals with good stats, breed them together, and select the best babies to breed further. Over time you'll build animals with maxed out stats through selective breeding.

What's the difference between Growth and Fertility?

Growth determines how fast babies mature into adults. Fertility controls how often animals can breed. Higher stats in both mean faster progression.

Do mutations happen randomly or can I breed for them?

Mutations spawn randomly on wild animals. You can try to breed animals that have mutations together, but there's no guarantee the babies will inherit them.

Better Genetics adds a breeding system to Minecraft where animals spawn with random stats. Catch animals with good traits, breed them together, and create super-mobs with perfect stats. It’s a simple idea that makes animal farming actually fun and rewarding.

How It Works

Every animal gets Growth and Fertility stats that control how fast babies mature and how often they can breed. Babies inherit their parents’ stats as an average, with a small chance to improve or worsen. Select the best offspring and keep breeding to gradually build better and better animals.

Animal Improvements

Cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits, horses, and llamas drop different amounts of meat, leather, and other materials based on their stats
Chickens lay eggs more often if they have high Egg Laying stats
Sheep can regrow wool without eating grass (random chance on spawn)
Rabbits with good stats drop rabbit’s feet more often
Bees produce honey faster with higher stats
Wolves spawn with random Attack, Armor, and Movement Speed attributes
Cats bring morning gifts based on personality and can give positive potion effects
Parrots can inflict negative effects on hostile mobs
Foxes boost breeding speed for nearby animals
Striders spawn with different movement speeds
Goats have varying ramming damage and aggression levels

Special Mutations

Most animals can receive special mutations, adding extra variety to your breeding projects. Each mutation is unique and gives animals distinct advantages or traits.
