Learn how to set the time to sunrise in Minecraft using the /time set 23000 command. Works in Java Edition and Bedrock.

How to Set Time to Sunrise in Minecraft

If you want to skip the night or just enjoy a sunrise without waiting, you can use the /time set command to change the time instantly. This guide shows you how to set the time to sunrise (dawn) in Minecraft.

What You Need

You’ll need cheats enabled in your world. If you’re in a world where cheats are off, you can’t use commands. Create a new world and toggle “Allow Cheats” to on, or use the command /allow-cheats on in an existing world.

The Command

To set the time to sunrise, use this command:

/time set 23000

The number 23000 represents 5:00am, which is right before dawn breaks. Some players prefer 0 for 6:00am if they want full daylight, but 23000 gives you the nice sunrise colors.

How to Enter the Command

Java Edition (PC/Mac)

  1. Press T to open the chat window
  2. Type /time set 23000
  3. Press Enter

You’ll see the message “Set the time to 23000” and the sky will immediately transition to dawn.

Other Useful Times

Here are some common times you might want to set:

Command Time of Day
/time set 0 6:00am (Early Morning)
/time set 1000 7:00am (Day)
/time set 6000 12:00pm (Noon)
/time set 12000 6:00pm (Sunset)
/time set 13000 7:00pm (Night)
/time set 18000 12:00am (Midnight)
/time set 23000 5:00am (Sunrise)

The Minecraft day cycle is 24,000 ticks total. Each 1,000 ticks equals roughly one hour.

Other Time Commands

Once you’re done watching the sunrise, you might want to try these other time-related commands:

  • /time add 1000 – Adds time forward (speeds up to next phase)
  • /time query daytime – Shows the current time
  • /daylock on – Locks the time so it never changes (stops sun/moon movement)
  • /daylock off – Unlocks time (normal day/night cycle resumes)

The /daylock command is perfect if you want to enjoy the sunrise view without it progressing further.
