How to Summon a Mooshroom
Mooshrooms are a cool mob to have around your world. You can get one instantly using the /summon command whenever cheats are turned on. This guide covers the command syntax and examples for all Minecraft versions.
Requirements
You’ll need to have cheats enabled in your world before you can run any commands. When creating a new world, toggle “Allow Cheats” to ON. If you already have a world, you can enable cheats with the pause menu under world settings.
The Summon Command
Minecraft Java Edition 1.13+
For Minecraft 1.13 and newer (including 1.20 and beyond), use this command:
/summon mooshroom [x] [y] [z] [nbt]
The coordinates and NBT tags are both optional. If you don’t add coordinates, the mooshroom spawns right at your location.
Minecraft Java Edition 1.8-1.12
For older versions, the entity ID was different:
/summon MushroomCow [x] [y] [z] [dataTag]
What the Parameters Mean
- [x] [y] [z] – The coordinates where the mooshroom should spawn. Use
~for your current position. Leave blank to spawn at your location. - [nbt] or [dataTag] – Optional properties like baby mooshrooms, custom names, or AI settings. Examples:
{Age:-25000}for a baby, or{CustomName:"\"Bessie\""}to name it.
Command Examples
Basic Summon (1.13+)
Spawn a mooshroom at your current position:
/summon mooshroom
Named Baby Mooshroom (1.13+)
Spawn a baby mooshroom and give it a custom name:
/summon mooshroom ~ ~ ~ {CustomName:"\"Bessie\"",Age:-25000}
For Older Versions (1.8-1.12)
Basic summon:
/summon MushroomCow
With a custom name:
/summon MushroomCow ~ ~ ~ {CustomName:Bessie}
Baby mooshroom:
/summon MushroomCow ~ ~ ~ {Age:-25000}
How to Run the Command
Step 1: Open Chat
Open the chat window by pressing the key for your platform:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac): Press T
- Windows 10/11 Edition: Press T
- Pocket Edition: Tap the chat button at the top
- Xbox One: Press the right D-Pad
- PS4: Press the right D-Pad
- Nintendo Switch: Press the right arrow button
Step 2: Type and Run
Type the command you want to use. For example:
/summon mooshroom
Once you've typed it, press Enter to run the command. You'll see a confirmation message that the mooshroom was summoned. It might spawn behind you, so look around if you don't see it right away.
That's it. Your mooshroom is now in your world and ready to go.
