Boring Backgrounds Mod

Tired of staring at the same old dirt background every time you open Minecraft? The Boring Backgrounds Mod lets you customize your menu background with any texture you want. You can set a single texture, rotate through multiple textures with weighted probability, or even randomize it every time you open a new screen.

It’s simple, lightweight, and works with both resource packs and global config files. If you want full control over your Minecraft menu look, this mod does exactly that.

Texture Customization

Replace the default dirt background with any texture from your game. Use a single texture for a clean look, or set up multiple textures with different weights so certain backgrounds appear more or less often.

Flexible Configuration

Configure the mod two ways: through a resource pack or through the global config folder. Both methods use the same format, so it’s easy to switch between them. The global config overrides resource pack settings if you need that control.

Screen Randomization

By default, backgrounds change when you reload textures (F3 + T). Enable randomization on new screen to get a fresh background every time you open a different menu screen.

How to Configure

The mod uses a simple JSON config format that works in both places:

The “textures” section maps texture file paths to weight values. Higher weights mean that texture gets picked more often. The “randomize_on_new_screen” option controls whether new backgrounds load with each menu or just on texture reloads.

Resource Pack Configuration

To set it up through a resource pack, create a file at: assets/boring_backgrounds/backgrounds/background_settings.json

Global Configuration

To use a global config file, place it at: .minecraft/config/boringbackgrounds.json

The global config file overrides any resource pack settings. To reload your settings without restarting the game, press F3 + T to reload textures.
