Zombified Piglin Guide

This guide covers everything you need to know about Zombified Piglins in Minecraft. These neutral mobs spawn in the Nether and are one of the most common creatures you’ll encounter there. Learn where to find them, what they drop, how to spawn them, and important tactics for dealing with them.

What Are Zombified Piglins?

Zombified Piglins are neutral mobs that live in the Nether. They were renamed from “Zombie Pigman” during the Nether Update. These creatures wield Golden Swords and have a greenish appearance with tattered clothes. They’re undead Piglins that wander around Bastion Remnants and other Nether biomes.

Zombified Piglin Stats

Hostility Level Neutral Mob
Health Points 22 health (11 hearts)
Spawn Location The Nether (Bastion Remnant)
Weapon Golden Sword
Attack Style Melee with Golden Sword
Drops 0-1 Rotten Flesh, 0-1 Gold Nugget, 0-1 Golden Sword
Experience Points 6 XP per kill

Hostility: Neutral Mob

Zombified Piglins are neutral, which means they leave you alone unless you attack them first. Hit one with a sword and it gets angry. The tricky part: all nearby Zombified Piglins will join in and attack you too. This can create a dangerous situation if you’re surrounded by a bunch of them. In Creative mode, they never attack no matter what you do.

Health Points

Each Zombified Piglin has 11 hearts of health, totaling 22 health points. This makes them tougher than a regular Zombie but not overly difficult to take down with a decent sword. A good iron sword will do the job, though a diamond sword makes quick work of them.

Where to Find Zombified Piglins

You’ll find Zombified Piglins in the Nether dimension. Bastion Remnants are the most common place to spot them, though they can also spawn in other Nether biomes. If you haven’t been to the Nether yet, you need to build a Nether Portal. Use Obsidian blocks arranged in a 4×5 rectangle and light it with a Flint and Steel.

Don’t have a Nether Portal handy? Use the /summon command or grab a Zombified Piglin spawn egg from Creative mode to spawn one right where you are.

Weapon

All Zombified Piglins carry a Golden Sword as their weapon. These swords are enchanted sometimes, which makes them hit harder. The Golden Sword has low durability, so it breaks quickly compared to other materials.

Attack Method

Zombified Piglins walk toward you and swing their Golden Sword to deal damage. They’re straightforward attackers. No fancy moves, no special abilities. Just close combat with their sword. Keep moving and you can dodge their attacks pretty easily.

Drops

When you kill a Zombified Piglin, it usually drops Rotten Flesh. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and it drops a Gold Nugget or the Golden Sword it was holding. Make sure you grab the drops before they disappear. Rotten Flesh is useful for taming wolves, and Gold Nuggets are great for crafting Gold Blocks or trading.

Experience Points

Killing a Zombified Piglin gives you 6 experience points. You’ll see green and yellow orbs float toward you when it dies. These are your experience points, which you can use to level up your enchanting table or mend your gear.

Spawn Eggs and Commands

In Creative mode, you can use a Zombified Piglin spawn egg to summon one instantly. Simply place the egg where you want it to spawn.

If you prefer commands, use: /summon zombified_piglin

In older versions of Minecraft, the command was /summon zombie_pigman since they were called Zombie Pigmen back then.

NBT Tags (Java Edition)

If you’re using commands in Java Edition, you can add NBT tags to customize Zombified Piglins. This lets you change their equipment, give them special abilities, or modify their behavior. Check the Minecraft wiki for a full list of available tags like PersistenceRequired, HandItems, Attributes, and more.

Spawn Events (Bedrock and Education Edition)

Bedrock Edition and Education Edition use spawn events instead of NBT tags. These let you trigger specific behaviors when the mob spawns. Check your version’s documentation for the exact spawn events available.

Tips for Dealing with Zombified Piglins

  • Don’t attack one unless you’re ready for a fight. Multiple ones will gang up on you.
  • Use a shield to block their sword attacks and reduce knockback.
  • Fight them one at a time if possible. Back away after each hit to create space.
  • Fire resistance potions are useful in the Nether but not required specifically for Zombified Piglins.
  • Their Golden Swords sometimes have enchantments. Loot their drops for potentially useful enchanted gear.

Other Nether Mobs

Zombified Piglins aren’t alone in the Nether. You’ll also encounter Piglins, Piglin Brutes, Ghasts, Blazes, Magma Cubes, Wither Skeletons, and Hoglins depending on which biome you’re exploring. Each has different drops and behaviors, so learn what you’re facing before engaging.
