Starlight Mod completely rewrites Minecraft’s light engine from the ground up. The vanilla light engine was never built for large scale, which means servers and single-player worlds can suffer massive FPS drops from light updates. Starlight fixes that. It works on both servers and clients, and you don’t need to install it on both. If your server runs Starlight, clients can connect with vanilla Minecraft or Starlight. If you have it on your client, you can join vanilla or Starlight servers.
Why Starlight Matters
The vanilla light engine was a performance nightmare. Updating light when you break or place blocks, or when chunks load, would cause noticeable stutters and FPS drops. Starlight was built specifically to solve this problem for large-scale servers that couldn’t function without major lighting performance improvements.
Performance Gains
The mod delivers dramatic performance improvements. Chunk generation sees huge speedups. Light updates from block interactions are nearly instant instead of causing lag spikes. The difference is night and day, especially on servers with lots of players or in heavily explored worlds.
