Minecraft 1.18.2 is the latest official release from Mojang. It adds the new /placefeature command and brings improvements to world generation, tag systems, and general bug fixes. If you’re running 1.18 or 1.18.1, you’ll need to update.
What’s New in 1.18.2
New Command
The /placefeature command lets you place structures and features directly in your world. This is useful for testing and building.
Gameplay Improvements
- Dolphins now navigate more accurately to the closest structure, regardless of type
- A seed of zero is no longer treated as a special case
- Spaces before and after seed inputs are automatically trimmed
- Ender chests no longer get wrapped for Christmas
Technical Updates
Changes to tags, custom world generation, and various bug fixes. 32-bit environment users will see a warning about upcoming support changes.
How to Install 1.18.2
To get the official release:
- Open the Minecraft Launcher
- Go to Launch Options
- Enable snapshots (if needed)
- Select version 1.18.2 and launch
The game will download automatically. Make sure you back up your worlds first, as official releases can occasionally cause issues.
