No. Version mismatch between client and server means you can't connect. You need a matching 1.7.9 client for 1.7.9 servers.

Online mode authenticates players through Mojang's servers. Offline mode doesn't. Choose one when you first start your server because player profiles don't carry over between the two modes.

How to Install

For the client, just run the downloaded jar file. If it doesn’t open, make sure you have Java installed.

For the server, extract the jar file to a folder and run it. The first launch will generate your world and config files. Then you’re good to go.
