Minecraft 1.7.9 is a maintenance release that focused on stability and security improvements. If you’re running a server or playing on older hardware, this version is still a solid choice for vanilla gameplay.
What’s in 1.7.9
This update includes bug fixes and security patches to keep your game stable. Nothing flashy, just the solid improvements that keep things running smooth. The changes are under the hood, so you won’t notice major gameplay differences from 1.7.8, but your server will run better.
Download Minecraft 1.7.9
Client Download
The client is what you run to play the game. Download this if you want to play on a 1.7.9 server or single-player world.
Server Download
Running a server? Grab the server jar to host a vanilla 1.7.9 server. We also provide the Windows exe if you prefer running the server on Windows.
Server (Jar): Download Server JAR
Server (Windows Exe): Download Windows Server
How to Install
For the client, just run the downloaded jar file. If it doesn’t open, make sure you have Java installed.
For the server, extract the jar file to a folder and run it. The first launch will generate your world and config files. Then you’re good to go.
Online vs Offline Mode
Important: When you start your 1.7.9 server for the first time, decide whether to run it in online mode or offline mode. Online mode authenticates players through Mojang’s servers. Offline mode doesn’t. Player profiles are not compatible between the two modes, so pick one and stick with it or you’ll have to restart.
Version Compatibility
Minecraft 1.7.9 clients can only connect to 1.7.9 servers. You can’t join a 1.7.10 server with a 1.7.9 client. Make sure your server and client versions match.
