How to Get Lily of the Valley in Minecraft
Lily of the valley is a flower you can find in Minecraft survival mode. You can’t craft it, so you need to hunt it down in the right biomes. It’s useful for making white dye, suspicious stew, and breeding bees.
Where to Find It
Look for lily of the valley in these biomes:
- Birch Forest – the most common spot
- Flower Forest – also spawns here regularly
- Birch Forest Hills – less common but still worth checking
The flower is small and white, so keep an eye out as you explore. It spawns naturally on grass blocks in these biomes.
How to Break It
Once you find one, break it like any flower. The controls depend on your version:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac) – left click and hold
- Pocket Edition – tap and hold
- Xbox One – hold RT button
- PS4 – hold R2 button
- Nintendo Switch – hold ZR button
- Windows 10 – left click and hold
The flower breaks and drops as an item. Pick it up before it despawns.
Creative Mode Location
In creative mode, you’ll find lily of the valley in:
- Versions 1.14-1.19 – Decoration Blocks tab

/give @p lily_of_the_valley 1
It stacks up to 64 and works in all versions from 1.14 onwards.
What to Use It For
Lily of the valley is a decent item to keep around. You can use it to:
- Make white dye (useful for color crafting)
- Brew suspicious stew with different effects depending on what you cook it with
- Breed bees (they’re attracted to flowers)
- Use in a composter for a small chance of bone meal
Most players just keep a few around in case they need white dye. It’s not super rare once you know where to look.
Other Flowers to Find
Minecraft has lots of other flowers in different biomes. Dandelion, poppy, blue orchid, allium, tulips, sunflower, lilac, rose bush, peony, and more all spawn naturally. Each biome has its own flower palette, so explore to find them all.
