How to Download & Install Fabric Mods
Getting Fabric mods running is pretty straightforward once you know where everything goes. This guide walks you through downloading mods, finding your mods folder, and getting them loaded into your game. If you haven’t installed Fabric Loader yet, start with that guide first.
Quick Overview
- Download your favorite Fabric mods
- Open your .minecraft folder
- Put the mod files in your mods folder
- Launch Minecraft with Fabric and you’re done
Step 1: Find and Download Mods
Head over to 1Minecraft’s mods section to see what’s available. Each mod page shows you example screenshots and what it does, so you can pick exactly what you want to add to your game.
Just make sure the mod you’re downloading says it’s for Fabric. The mod page will list which versions it supports, so grab the version that matches your Fabric Loader version.
Step 2: Open Your Mods Folder
Now you need to find where to put the mod files. On Windows, it’s pretty easy:
- Press Windows Key + R to open the Run window
- Type %appdata% and hit Enter
- Look for the .minecraft folder
- Inside .minecraft, you should see a mods folder
If there’s no mods folder there, just create one. Right-click in the .minecraft folder, go to New, then Folder, and name it mods.
Step 3: Add Your Mods
Drop the mod files you downloaded into that mods folder. They should be .jar files. You can add as many as you want, as long as they don’t conflict with each other (most mods get along fine).
Step 4: Launch and Play
Open your Minecraft launcher, select the Fabric version you set up, and start a world. When the game loads, all your mods will be active and ready to go. You can check the mods menu in-game to see everything that loaded.
Version Compatibility
Each mod is made for a specific Minecraft version. Make sure you’re downloading mods that match your Fabric Loader version. If you install a mod for 1.20 but you’re running 1.19, it won’t work and might cause problems. Always check the mod page for version info before downloading.
Troubleshooting
Game won’t start after adding mods? Remove the last mod you added and try again. One of your mods might not be compatible with another.
Can’t find the .minecraft folder? Make sure you’re looking in the right place. Try opening the Run window again (Windows Key + R) and typing %appdata%.
Mods not showing up? Make sure the mod files are actually in the mods folder and that the folder is named exactly “mods” with no extra spaces or characters.
