Flowering azalea is a plant block added in the Caves & Cliffs update. Unlike most plants, you can’t craft it. You need to find and mine it in the world. Here’s how to get one.

What is Flowering Azalea?

Flowering azalea is a decorative plant that generates naturally in Lush Caves biomes. It appears as a small tree block covered in colorful flowers. You can break it and place it anywhere you want, making it great for building and decoration.

Where to Find Flowering Azalea

Flowering azalea only spawns in Lush Caves biomes. These underground caves feature lots of greenery and plant life. You’ll find flowering azaleas growing on the cave floor and walls alongside other vegetation like spore blossoms and azalea bushes.

Version Availability

Flowering azalea is available in Minecraft Java Edition 1.17 and newer. It was introduced with the Caves & Cliffs Part I update. Bedrock Edition players also have access to it in equivalent versions.

How to Collect Flowering Azalea

Breaking flowering azalea is straightforward:

  • Java Edition (PC/Mac) – Left click and hold on the plant
  • Bedrock/Pocket Edition – Tap and hold on the plant
  • Xbox – Hold the RT button
  • PlayStation – Hold the R2 button
  • Nintendo Switch – Hold the ZR button

The plant breaks instantly and drops itself as an item. Pick it up before it disappears (it stays on the ground for about 5 minutes).

Using Your Flowering Azalea

Once you have one, you can place it in your world just like any plant. It doesn’t require soil to grow. You can also pot it in a flower pot for decoration. Stack size is 64, so you can carry a full stack.

Creative Mode

In Creative Mode, you can find flowering azalea in the Decoration Blocks tab (versions 1.17-1.19) or Natural Blocks tab (versions 1.19.3+).

Commands

To get a flowering azalea with a command in Java Edition:

/give @p flowering_azalea 1

Change the 1 to any number between 1 and 64 to get multiple at once.
