Birds in the Mod

Here’s what you’ll encounter. All these birds have different sizes, habitats, and behaviors.

Common Birds

Duck – Small river bird with a quack. Found near water. Can be bred.

Pigeon – Two variants: wood pigeons and rock doves. Makes cooing sounds. Spawns in forests and plains.

Swan – Large water bird in 4 varieties. Often swimming in rivers. Makes loud honking calls.

Seagull – Found near beaches and oceans. Circles around constantly. Cannot be bred.

Forest Birds

Owl – 3 varieties. Glow eyes in the dark. Only appear alone. Will fly away if attacked.

Woodpecker – 3 types. Found high in trees pecking holes. Makes sounds while working.

Parrot – 4 colorful variants. Can be tamed with wheat seeds and will follow you like wolves. Tameable colors give them 10 hearts instead of 4.

Tropical Birds

Toucan – 3 varieties. Large colorful beaks. Found in jungles and savannahs. Makes distinctive calls.

Gouldian Finch – 6 varieties. Small and colorful. Spawn in jungles. Quiet chirping sounds.

Hummingbird – 5 types. Tiny birds that hover fast. Attracted with sugar. Cannot be bred.

Water Birds

Pelican – Large birds by water. Can be bred.

Kingfisher – Small quiet birds. Swoop down and grab fish from water. Cannot be bred.

Flamingo – Pink birds that stand on one leg. Found near water.

Desert & Large Birds

Ostrich – Huge birds in desert biomes. Lays the biggest eggs of any bird.

Cassowary – Very large protective birds. Passive until attacked, then become hostile. Babies look different from adults.

Roadrunner – Extremely fast desert bird. Silent runner. Get close by holding wheat seeds.

Vulture – Large birds in deserts. Fly high and circle looking for prey.

Special Birds

Lyrebird – Can mimic animal sounds. During day they copy sheep, cows, and pigs. At night they replicate zombie, skeleton, and creeper noises. Males have orange tail feathers.

Magpie – Will hold items in their mouth sometimes. Trade them wheat seeds to swap items, or hit them to get it back (takes time).

Kiwi – Very small bird. Lays huge eggs for its body size.

Penguin – Waddles around cold biomes slowly. Can be bred.

Peafowl – First bird added to the mod. Peacocks have colorful plumage. Click them to open or close their tail feathers. There’s a rare Albino Peafowl that supposedly lays golden eggs.

Phoenix – Mythical fire creature. 100 hearts. Only spawns from eggs, not naturally. Saddle them and look up to fly up, look down to fly down. Drops a Phoenix Egg on death so you can hatch it again.

Items & Crafting

Bird Eggs & Nests

Find nests sitting on leaves throughout your world. Breaking them drops 0-3 bird eggs and sticks. All eggs have a 10% hatch chance when thrown. Add blaze powder to eggs to increase hatch chance by 20% per powder (max 50%).

Phoenix Eggs need light level 9, 10, or 11 to hatch. You’ll see flame particles when conditions are right. Craft Phoenix Eggs by surrounding a chicken egg with Phoenix Dust.

Unidentified Eggs – Black eggs with question marks. Use an Egg Sorter to identify them. Sometimes produces eggshells instead.

Eggshell

Drops from nests and broken eggs. Works like bonemeal to speed up plant growth and flower spreading.

Bird Meat

All birds drop raw bird meat when killed. Cook it in a furnace for food.

Book of Birds

Craft a normal book with a peacock feather. Left click birds with the book to log them and get XP. The book shows each bird’s picture, scientific name, and description.

Peacock Feather

Dropped by peacocks. Use to craft the Book of Birds.

Phoenix Items

Phoenix Dust – Rare item from abandoned mineshaft chests. Drop from phoenixes on death. Use to craft Phoenix Eggs.

Phoenix Feather – Drops from phoenixes. Doesn’t do anything yet.
