Depth Strider Enchantment Guide – Minecraft

Learn about Depth Strider in Minecraft. Get commands, compatible items, max levels, and tips for underwater movement with this enchantment guide.

The Depth Strider enchantment lets you move faster underwater. It’s one of the most useful enchantments if you spend time in water. Here’s everything you need to know about getting and using it.

What Does Depth Strider Do?

Depth Strider speeds up how fast you can swim. Without it, moving through water is slow and clunky. With Depth Strider, you move almost as fast as you do on land. It only works on boots, and you need to wear them to get the benefit.

How to Get Depth Strider

You can add Depth Strider to boots in three ways: with an enchanting table, an anvil, or a command. Pick whichever works best for you.

Using an Enchanting Table

Put your boots on an enchanting table and look for Depth Strider in the available enchantments. You might need to try multiple times before you see it.

Using an Anvil

Combine boots with a Depth Strider enchanted book on an anvil. You can find enchanted books in loot chests or create them on an enchanting table.

Using Commands

The quickest way is to use the enchant command. Here are the commands for each level:

/enchant @p depth_strider 1
/enchant @p depth_strider 2
/enchant @p depth_strider 3

Depth Strider Levels

Depth Strider has three levels. Level 1 gives you a basic speed boost. Level 2 is faster. Level 3 is the maximum and lets you move almost at full speed underwater. The higher the level, the better the effect.

What You Can Enchant

Depth Strider only works on boots. You can use it on any type of boots:

  • Leather Boots
  • Chain Boots
  • Iron Boots
  • Diamond Boots
  • Golden Boots
  • Netherite Boots

You can also put Depth Strider on an enchanted book and apply it later.

Enchantments That Don’t Work Together

Depth Strider and Frost Walker can’t be on the same boots. Frost Walker freezes water when you walk on it, which conflicts with Depth Strider’s underwater movement benefit. Choose one or the other.

Technical Details

In Minecraft Java Edition, Depth Strider has the ID minecraft:depth_strider and internal ID 8. It was added in version 1.8. The max level is III.

Using Your Enchanted Boots

Once you have boots with Depth Strider, put them in your boots slot. Just drag them from your inventory to the boots box. Your character will wear them immediately, and you’ll swim much faster in water. That’s it. No special setup needed.
