Copper Trapdoor
Copper trapdoors are solid blocks that work like regular trapdoors but are made from copper. You can open and close them with redstone signals or by hand. The cool part? They oxidize over time, changing color from shiny copper to a turquoise patina. You can stop this process by waxing them with honeycomb.
Oxidation Stages
Copper trapdoors go through four oxidation stages if left unwaxed:
- Unoxidized – Fresh copper, shiny orange-brown color
- Exposed – Starting to oxidize, with green spots appearing
- Weathered – Mostly green with some brown discoloration
- Oxidized – Full teal/turquoise patina with green accents
You can speed up oxidation by striking copper blocks with lightning, or reverse oxidation by scraping them with an axe. Waxing a copper trapdoor with honeycomb stops oxidation at whatever stage it’s currently in.
Getting Copper Trapdoors
Breaking
Mine copper trapdoors with a stone pickaxe or better. Anything weaker won’t drop the block. Here are the breaking times:
| Tool | Time (seconds) |
|---|---|
| Hand / Wooden Pickaxe | 7.5-15 |
| Stone Pickaxe | 1.15 |
| Iron Pickaxe | 0.75 |
| Diamond Pickaxe | 0.6 |
| Netherite Pickaxe | 0.5 |
| Golden Pickaxe | 1.25 |
Crafting
Copper trapdoors are crafted from blocks of copper in a 2×3 pattern on a crafting table:
- Unwaxed Copper Trapdoor: 2×3 grid of copper blocks (any oxidation stage)
- Waxed Copper Trapdoor: Unwaxed copper trapdoor + honeycomb
Natural Generation
Copper doors and trapdoors generate naturally in trial chambers. You’ll find them throughout the structure as part of the rooms and passages.
How to Use Them
Open and close copper trapdoors just like any other trapdoor. You can activate them with redstone signals, redstone buttons, pressure plates, or just click on them directly. They work perfectly in building designs where you want that copper aesthetic.
If you’re building with oxidized copper, your trapdoors will age with the rest of your structure. If you prefer them to stay fresh-looking, wax them early and they’ll stay that way permanently.
