Cold Ocean Biome in Minecraft
The Cold Ocean is an underwater biome you’ll find in Minecraft’s Overworld. It’s basically a large body of cold water filled with sea life and vegetation. If you’re exploring and suddenly you’re swimming in icy waters with cod and salmon around you, you’ve probably landed in one.
What You’ll Find in a Cold Ocean
Mobs
The Cold Ocean is home to several aquatic creatures. You’ll commonly see cod, salmon, and squid swimming around. It’s a good place to catch fish if you need some food, though they can be tough to grab without the right gear.
Underwater Vegetation
This biome has plenty of sea life. You’ll find seagrass and kelp growing throughout the water. Kelp grows really tall and is useful for various recipes, so it’s worth collecting if you see it.
Blocks and Terrain
The seafloor is mostly covered in gravel, sand, and dirt. If you dig deeper, you’ll hit the standard ore blocks like stone, coal ore, iron ore, gold ore, diamond ore, redstone ore, and copper ore. Everything you’d normally find underground is down there.
Weather
You won’t experience weather in the Cold Ocean since you’re underwater. Rain doesn’t matter, snow doesn’t apply. It’s just cold water all the way down.

Tips for Exploring Cold Oceans
Bring a Potion of Water Breathing if you plan to spend time underwater. It makes exploring way easier and lets you look for loot without constantly surfacing for air. A good boat also helps if you just want to get across the water quickly without diving in.
Bring a pickaxe if you want to harvest kelp, since you’ll need to break blocks underwater. Make sure it’s at least stone or better.
