Cobbled deepslate is a building block you can get by mining deepslate with a pickaxe. It was added in the Caves and Cliffs update and spawns naturally deep underground.
Where to Find Cobbled Deepslate
You don’t craft cobbled deepslate. Instead, you find it by mining deepslate blocks in the deep caves. Look for deepslate below Y coordinate 0. The deeper you go, the more common it gets.
Deepslate has a grayish-purple look with thin lines running through it. It’s pretty easy to spot once you’re deep enough.
How to Mine Cobbled Deepslate
1. Get a Pickaxe
You need a pickaxe to get cobbled deepslate. Any pickaxe works, but better picks are faster:
- Wooden Pickaxe
- Stone Pickaxe
- Iron Pickaxe
- Diamond Pickaxe
- Netherite Pickaxe
- Golden Pickaxe (fastest but breaks quick)
If you try to mine deepslate with your hand or a different tool, the cobbled deepslate won’t drop.
2. Mine the Block
Hold down your attack button while looking at the deepslate. This works differently on different platforms:
- Java Edition (PC/Mac): Left click and hold
- Pocket Edition: Tap and hold
- Xbox One: Hold RT
- PS4: Hold R2
- Nintendo Switch: Hold ZR
- Windows 10 Edition: Left click and hold
Keep mining until the block cracks and breaks. The cobbled deepslate will drop as an item.
3. Pick It Up
Walk over the cobbled deepslate to collect it. It’ll go into your inventory.
Crafting with Cobbled Deepslate
Cobbled deepslate is useful for building. You can craft it into:
- Deepslate (smelt it in a furnace)
- Cobbled Deepslate Stairs
- Cobbled Deepslate Slab
- Cobbled Deepslate Wall
Most of these are made using standard crafting recipes. For example, stairs use the same pattern as wooden stairs but with cobbled deepslate instead.
