Catwalks 2 Mod 1.7.10

Catwalks 2 adds practical building blocks that actually look good. You get catwalks for speed, caged ladders for fast climbing, scaffolding that builds and breaks instantly, support columns for structural details, and sturdy rails that don’t need support blocks underneath. Some are super useful, some are just cool looking. All of them work together.

What’s in the Mod

Catwalks are the meat of the mod. They boost your movement speed like a speed potion while you’re inside them, and you can toggle the sides on and off with the Blowtorch. When a side is disabled, the hitbox shrinks and the block becomes invisible unless you’re holding a Blowtorch. Stack them vertically and you can climb them like ladders.

Caged Ladders are basically fast ladders. You climb them at almost double the speed of normal ladders (about 5 blocks per second) and you can’t accidentally fall out the sides. Sides toggle on and off the same way catwalks do.

Scaffolding breaks instantly when you hit it, which makes it perfect for temporary builds. You can extend and retract them with a scaffold or blowtorch in hand. They come in two types: normal scaffolds and builder’s scaffolds. Builder’s scaffolds let you right-click them with a block to swap the scaffold for that block. Super fast way to build.

Support Columns are mostly decorative. They align to the side of blocks you place them on, and you can toggle between directional and non-directional versions. You can extend them by shift-right-clicking with another support column, and they show particle effects when they connect or hit their limit. Technically climbable but they’re slow.

Sturdy Rails are self-supporting rails that don’t need blocks underneath them. All vanilla rail types have sturdy versions. Powered and Activator rails toggle with a Blowtorch instead of needing redstone signals. They connect to normal rails too.

Items and Tools

Blowtorch is your mod configuration tool. Use it to toggle sides, swap scaffold types, extend and retract columns, break blocks instantly, and toggle powered rails. Most mod wrenches work as replacements.

Rope Light right-clicks onto catwalks and caged ladders to make them glow and change texture.

Caution Tape changes the texture of catwalks and caged ladders. Shift-right-click with an empty hand to remove it (remove lights first, then the tape).

How It All Works

Catwalks

  • Toggle sides on and off with a Blowtorch
  • Disabled sides make the hitbox 1/4 block tall and invisible (unless holding a Blowtorch)
  • Right-clicking the inside actually clicks the outside, so you can place blocks on the outer surface
  • You can’t jump over the sides unless you’re sneaking
  • Get a speed boost while inside (like Speed 1 potion, configurable)
  • Stack them vertically to climb them like ladders
  • Sneak or hold a Blowtorch to cling to them. Hold a Blowtorch and sneak to climb down

Caged Ladders

  • Toggle sides on and off with a Blowtorch
  • Disabled sides shrink the hitbox to 1/4 block wide and become invisible
  • Right-clicking the inside clicks the outside
  • Climb at almost 2x the speed of normal ladders (about 5 blocks per second, configurable)
  • Can’t climb the outside (configurable)
  • Sneak or hold a Blowtorch to cling. Hold a Blowtorch and sneak to climb down

Support Columns

  • Full block length along one axis by default
  • Align with the side of the block they’re placed on
  • Right-click with a Blowtorch to toggle between directional and non-directional
  • Climbable but much slower than normal ladders
  • Sneak, hold a column, or hold a Blowtorch to cling. With column or Blowtorch, sneak to climb down slowly
  • Shift-right-click with a support column to extend in the opposite direction of the side clicked
  • Shift-right-click with a Blowtorch to retract from the opposite direction
  • White particle stars when connecting to another line of columns
  • Red particle stars when they can’t extend anymore

Scaffolding

  • Break instantly when hit
  • Extend and retract like support columns with same particle effects
  • Climbable and as fast as normal ladders
  • Sneak, hold a scaffold, or hold a Blowtorch to cling. With scaffold or Blowtorch, sneak to climb down
  • Normal Scaffolds are just regular blocks
  • Builder’s Scaffolds swap with any block you right-click them with
  • Right-click a Normal Scaffold with a Blowtorch to toggle between Normal and Builder’s textures

Sturdy Rails

  • Work like vanilla rails but don’t need support blocks
  • Can’t be placed directly above other rails
  • Sturdy Powered and Activator Rails toggle with a Blowtorch instead of needing redstone
  • Right-click the top of a Sturdy Rail with another Sturdy Rail to extend the line in the direction you’re facing
  • Connect to normal rails
